About Kubik
Kubik is a company based in Ethiopia that helps countries reduce their carbon and plastic footprints by transforming plastic into low-carbon construction materials. Aiming to create safe, durable, and affordable buildings that everyone can enjoy.
Kubik intended to design a customer-facing construction manual that mirrors the innovative nature of their product: embodying Kubik's principles and telling their story through simple, clear visuals. Key design goals included:
- A cohesive layout aligned with the Kubik brand
- Clear hierarchical structure and intuitive navigation
- Informative illustrations, diagrams, and images
- Visuals and language that reflect the Ethiopian context and illustrate cultural nuances intentionally
Research-grounded, prototype-tested
To build a comprehensive understanding of Kubik's product and its application in the construction industry, the team began by familiarising themselves with the product's purpose, intended use, and the challenges it addresses.
Using an HCD approach, we conducted consultations with a diverse range of stakeholders: contractors, masons, architects, site engineers, and Kubik's internal team. These interactions provided insight into the needs, pain points, and preferences of those directly involved in the construction process.
We then entered an ideation phase, exploring multiple concepts for enhancing the manual's functionality and usability. Multiple prototypes were developed, each testing different aspects in real-world scenarios, and evaluated directly with end users to gather feedback and inform refinements.
